Wish kid grows up to become doctor


Dr. Jen Pratt was 11 when an X-ray revealed her knee pain was being caused by a form of bone cancer growing in her femur.

“Rather than being just a kid, I was forced into a world of doctor appointments, scans, hospitalizations, and surgeries,” Jen says.

Now a pediatrician specializing in inpatient care, Jen says her time in the hospital as a child makes her a better doctor today.

Collin, a heart patient from Hawaii, had a chance to go wherever he wanted for his Make-A-Wish experience, and he chose to travel to San Diego to meet the doctors who saved his life.

The wish was not only a reunion at Rady Children’s Hospital, but also a celebration of Collin’s birthday – he turned 12-years-old two days after arriving.

The students at Eagle Valley High School hoped to raise $5,000 to send 7-year-old Scarlett on her wish. By the end of “Wish Week,” the students, teachers and staff had collected enough money to grant several more wishes for local kids who’ve been diagnosed with a critical illness.

When a team of villains captured oncologist Dr. Lauren Akers, only one person could stop them: Super Aiden.

The 7-year-old spent his day fighting bad guys, rescuing people, and putting out an airplane fire. His mom was not surprised by her son’s wish. “He didn’t let cancer beat him,” she said, “He was a hero for real. It makes sense to be doing what we’re doing for him.”

After years of watching the celebration on television, Jennifer wished to go to New York City for New Year’s Eve. She received a behind-the-scenes tour for the event, including a close-up look at the Times Square Ball. The teen and her family took a side trip to The National September 11 Memorial and Museum, which was solemnly emotional. “Even though my hand is frozen,” Jennifer said, “it’s been good.”
